U.S.S. McAlester NCC-42895 Master Systems Display

Finally, I present to you my Excelsior-Refit Class starship. It's been literally years since I first came up with the McAlester and her registry but the idea hasn't reached maturity until recently. Now I'm working on detailed specifications to accompany what I hope to be a really deep storyline based around the McAlester and her crew. For now, we'll focus on the ship itself.

For this project, I have spent an enormous amount of time researching various sources and closely studying images of the actual studio model used for the Enterprise-B. I finally was able to ascertain how many decks this ship would have and how they would be positioned inside the ship's hull. What you have here is a detailed side profile of the ship's interior, although it's not a complete MSD. In the end, this is supposed to look like what is displayed on the back wall of the Excelsior-Class starship's bridge. However, I don't have the appropriate fonts to label it so for now, I'm just posting the basic schematic.

It should be noted that the Starship McAlester is a heavily modified Excelsior. On the outside, she appears to be like any other Excelsior-Refit. However, internally the McAlester has a completely redesigned engineering compartment to accommodate a Class-9 warp core similar to that of the Intrepid Class. The McAlester had been brought out of mothballs to be used as a testbed for modifications that would strengthen the Excelsior Class as a front line ship. However, few ships of this class ever received such improvements due to the amount of time and resources required which Starfleet felt were better spent on building new starships. The only other notable starship to have been outfitted so extensively was also an Excelsior-Refit variant, the U.S.S. Lakota NCC-42768. Still, the Excelsior-Class is quickly becoming a thing of the past as Starfleet seems quite adamant about retiring the class from service. The McAlester has been an exception to the rule only because of her unique improvements. Starfleet has never seen anything like her, nor will ever see anything like her again.

After having proven herself under Captain Kingston's command during the Dominion War, the McAlester has received a thorough refit to nearly all of the ship's systems to make it suitable for active duty. Engineers have found that the McAlester's large warp nacelles will make efficient use of the power delivered by the Class-9 reactor core. The impulse drives are, if anything, overpowered. Simulations have shown the McAlester to be much more maneuverable than a standard Excelsior and considerably tougher in a fight.

Her phasers are capable of firing in a standard beam or in a rapid-fire charged pulse, a mode of fire inspired by the Defiant's pulse cannons. The new sheilds and photon torpedo launchers are on par with that of an Akira-Class and it is rumored that Admiral Hellsing has authorized the McAlester to carry a limited supply of quantum torpedoes and a Danube-Class Runabout. Only time can tell how these new systems will be put to the test.

Jesus Christ. Just how long do you work on these? I remember spending one and a half hour to simply draw the hull of a ship in paint.
